Surface waterproofing against pressing groundwater, Greifswald town hall
Greifswald Town Hall has had an eventful history: it was built after the town was granted municipal rights in 1250. In 1713, the building fell victim to a fire and was destroyed down to its foundations. In the 1990s, moisture penetration threatened the historic ribbed vault inside the building.

In order to protect Greifswald Town Hall from moisture penetration in the long term, especially from pressing groundwater, the surfaces were carefully sealed. These measures were carried out strictly in accordance with historical specifications and in compliance with the requirements of monument protection, which stipulate that no materials may be used that could damage the surfaces of the masonry.
Measures implemented to seal the area against pressing groundwater:
- Application of WEBAC 5611 on the exterior wall
- Application of WEBAC 5611 on the interior wall (up to approx. 50 cm above the top edge of the floor)
- Installation of the WEBAC injection tube
- Installation of a waterproof WU concrete floor
- Injection of the injection tube with WEBAC 1403
- Application of interior plaster in the area where the floor meets the wall (also over WEBAC 5611) for effective moisture decoupling
Protecting the basement from moisture penetration was particularly important, as it was intended to be used as a guest room, exhibition space, and for the popular arts and crafts market during Advent.

WEBAC injection tubes are flexible joint tubes that, when used in conjunction with WEBAC PU injection resins, provide a reliable seal. They are used to seal construction joints in concrete structures and to create a structural bond between concrete components.
PU Injection Resins
WEBAC® 1403
- Classic Line
View detailsWEBAC 1403 is a long-track-record proven PU injection resin, particularly valued for its safe and controlled application. Upon contact with water, it cures into a closed, waterproof, and dimensionally stable resin with a fine pore structure. It is suitable for sealing, crack injection, and stabilizing masonry and concrete, and is used for post-construction damp proof courses (dpc) against capillary rising damp.
Dispersion for Walls and Floors
WEBAC® 5611
- Classic Line
View detailsWEBAC 5611 is a reactive bitumen-acrylate dispersion that adheres well to a wide variety of substrates and has crack-bridging properties. The hydrophobic effect of the bitumen component creates a waterproof seal with reliable protection against leaching by salts harmful to structures. This makes WEBAC 5611 suitable for surface waterproofing against hydrostatic pressure in building construction, civil engineering, and historic preservation.
