Crack sealing with gel, Essen City Railway

The Essen-Gelsenkirchen light rail connection is a fast link between the two cities. A significant section of this route is the so-called northern route.

Curtain InjectionCrack Repair
Crack sealing with gel, Essen City Railway

Several cracks appeared in the concrete inner shell of the parking facility at the Berliner Platz train station in Essen, some of which were water-bearing. To ensure quick and sustainable sealing of the cracks, various injection methods were tested, and ultimately the proven WEBAC injection system with WEBAC 240 injection gel was chosen.
The WEBAC 240 injection gel used is a high-quality, fast-gelling polyacrylate gel with low viscosity and excellent sealing properties. It has exceptionally high elasticity and strength, enabling it to absorb the regular movements of the structure. In addition, the firm-elastic, waterproof gel adheres excellently to both dry and wet mineral substrates, making it technically and economically ideal.

A total of nine blocks were treated, with WEBAC 240 injection gel being injected into the area between the inner concrete shell and the surrounding shotcrete behind the existing joint filling material.

After just 14 days of regular operation, the treated areas were successfully sealed. The short execution time of the injection process with WEBAC 240 significantly reduced the restrictions on rail operations, resulting in considerable time and cost savings.

WEBAC 240 is a low-viscosity, fast-setting polyacrylate injection gel with National Technical Approval from DIBt (B-concentration 2%). After curing, it forms a waterproof, firm-elastic gel that reliably absorbs dynamic and mechanical stresses. It is particularly suitable for curtain injection—either in the subsoil immediately adjacent to the structural element or within the existing building structure—as well as for subsoil stabilization and waterproofing or damp proof courses (dpc).
